My Little Kitchen Spider

My Little Kitchen Spider

by Sharon Ray

My little kitchen spider is growing. His web is in the groove of the sliding rail, so I leave the window alone because he lives there. I think he is content. He doesn’t catch much in his web, but I do see tiny holes in it where he’s had a meal here and there.
Over the months my little spider has gotten used to me and doesn’t hide anymore when I do the dishes. His life is so simple. He doesn’t have much company, no children to speak of, and life without a cell phone is so quiet for him. Every late afternoon, just as the sun begins to turn golden, he comes out on his web and basks in the light.
He is a good teacher for me.
Child of a Thousand Summers

Child of a Thousand Summers

by Sharon Ray

She is golden, and always joyous;
Her faith in Life makes her so.
Her vision sees the happy flow of God everywhere.
The knowledge that all is well is in her very nature.
Like jasmine is her fragrance,
And wherever she walks, colors flow.
Surely, she is dear to the Lord.

Though utterly sincere, there is nothing serious about her.
Peaceful, smiling, she is content with what is at hand.

Always happy, she finds there is nothing ever to lament.
She takes little note of challenges, as Faith and Grace are her ample helpers.
Her open heart plays in the gentle breezes that blow ‘round her.

Good-hearted, straight forward, and sincere, there is no guile in her.
She is happy wherever she is, doing whatever she is doing,
For joy is her nature.
Because her mind is happy, her heart has room to expand.
Such is her purity that the flowers mind not when she kisses them.

She leaves the deep mysteries of the Universe in their realm,
And dances in the manifested garden of life.
Past and future are unimportant to her.
The chirping of little birds brings her delight,
And she has never been kissed, except by the sun.

Here is a mystery: I have never seen her after the sun goes down.
In the middle of the night I have called her name to no avail.
Where does she go? Will she not play with the moon and the stars?

Her smile is broad, reflecting the delight that is a living movement,
Ever being born anew within her.
Light streams forth from her pores,
And darkness has no power over her unwavering gaze of goodwill upon it.
Her will is to bless the Earth;
To be the everlasting torch, lighting an ocean of candles to shine.
She does not seek, for in every moment she is becoming, more and more.

O glory to God in the highest, for He has made all things possible.

She watches the unfoldment of the Divine Will in her life,
And plans not.

Even in winter, she is warm.
